Classes & Workshops

Classes

Students will take core music classes every morning, split into two general age groups.

Ear Training I: Can you hear THIS? (for ages 11 and under) - 9am

This is an introductory course for younger students on ear training, where students will be training their ears to identify pitch, intervals, and harmony.

Ear Training II: Can you hear THAT? (for ages 12 and older) - 10am

This is an accelerated course for older students on ear training. In addition to identifying pitch, intervals, and harmony, students will also complete dictations and transcriptions.

Conducting I: Moving Your Arms! (for ages 11 and under) - 10am

This is an introductory course for younger students on conducting, where students will learn proper posture, conduct in various time signatures, and more.

Conducting II: Moving Your Body! (for ages 12 and older) - 9am

This is an accelerated course for older students that covers the basics of conducting while also exploring body movements to control dynamics and other forms of expression.

Theory I: Beginning and Intermediate - 9am

This level is designed for students who have a basic understanding of music theory and are looking to improve their understanding of intervals, chords, cadences, and more.

Theory II: Advanced - 10am

This level is designed for students who have a strong understanding of music theory and have passed ABRSM Grade 5 Theory and are currently studying or plan to study for the AP Music Theory Exam.

Rhythm Training I: Rhythm Machine (for ages 11 and under) - 10am

Younger students will learn to dictate basic rhythms in a fun and engaging way.

Rhythm Training II: Syncopation in Jazz (for ages 12 and older) - 9am

Older students will learn about common rhythm patterns found in jazz music.

Repertoire I: Music in Dances (for ages 11 and under)

Younger students will listen to and analyze music found in dances from various time periods and genres.

Repertoire II: Music in Dances (for ages 12 and older)

Older students will listen to and analyze music found in dances from various time periods and genres.

Workshops

All BSM students will be required to attend these workshops and lectures. These classes are designed for all ages.

WEEK #1

Workshop: Piano and Strings Collab Skills

Students will develop a better understanding on how piano and string players should work together in an ensemble setting.

Workshop: How to Practice Effectively

Many students are guilty of wasting time when practicing alone. This workshop will teach students how to engage their critical thinking skills and develop practical strategies to learn their pieces efficiently and effectively.

WEEK #2

Each day of the second week of camp covers one musical time period in chronological order. Students will learn about notably recognized composers and events. Repertoire in each time period will be discussed and demonstrated by pointing out key features that are prominent to that era.
